MEET THE DEROSE FAMILY
Founder & CEO at A. DeRose & Sons, LLC
Anthony DeRose graduated from Seton Hall University in 1972, with a degree in finance. He worked on Wall street for many years, and was a First Vice President with Shearson Lehman Brothers. Anthony’s grandfather, Anthony Garrubbo, was in construction, and one of the projects he was responsible for was enlarging the Holland Tunnel.
Anthony decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, and began building homes, starting with his own, in Bernardsville, New Jersey, in 1980. Anthony is known for his intense attention to detail, and the exquisite trim he puts into every home.
One of his favorite quotes is “Perfection is no accident,” and the quality of his workmanship is the proof.
Mary Beth DeRose
Co-Founder at A. DeRose & Sons, LLC
Mary Beth DeRose graduated from Niagara University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She and Anthony were married in 1978. They have three sons, the oldest of the three, Gerald, works with them in the family business.
She started working part time in the family business in the early 90’s, and gradually became an integral part of the company. Then in 2005, Mary Beth completed the requirements to receive the Virginia Class A Builders License. Mary Beth is available to accompany and assist their customers with making all the selections necessary during the design phase, and through the building process.
It is worthy to note that Mary Beth has family that was involved in building, as well. her grandfather, Christopher Colman Carven, an architect, worked on the team that designed the Verrazano Bridge in New York, and the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel in Norfolk, Virginia.
I have grown up on construction sites with my father. I can remember playing in the dirt piles, building forts with scraps pulled from dumpsters and pretending to drive the bulldozers, backhoes and excavators. This early exposure to construction had set the foundation for what turned out to be my future career path. My father wanted me to learn how to build a house from the ground up, so each summer throughout grade school and high school I worked with the different tradesmen. Interior carpentry happened to be my most favorite. Being able to take a step back at the end of a long day to admire some of the molding, mantle pieces or raised panels I had just installed was truly rewarding. Much like my role in the company today, handing over the keys to clients at the end of a new build is extremely gratifying. Meeting with new clients and turning their ideas, pictures and dreams into reality is always new, fresh and exciting! I run the day to day operations of the company with a very hands on approach. Some days you may see me with a shovel, hammer, trowel or broom! Others I’m dressed to impress, meeting with clients discussing project progress, answering questions or concerns or explaining why A. DeRose and Sons is the right builder for you!
